The Effects of the Memory Strategy for the Recall Memory and The Implication for Occupational Therapy
Kim Young-Geun

Abstract
Objective: The purpose of this study was to verify the effect of categorization, familiarity and rehearsal strategy for the recall memory.

Method: In both experiment, the focus was on a comparison and analysis of whether categorized or non-categorized objects affect the recall memory in controlled experiment conditions. In experiment 1, artificially constructed categorization or non-categorization objects and familiarity or non-familiarity objects were used. In experiment 2, categorized or non-categorized objects were used and participants used rehearsal memory or simple memory strategy.

Results: The results of experiments showed that categorization, familiarity, rehearsal strategy positively affect the recall memory. That is, when characteristics of recalled objects were consisted of categorization and familiarity, response accuracies increased. And when objects were categorized and participants used rehearsal strategy, response accuracies increased.

Conclusions: These results indicate that categorized and familiar objects and rehearsal strategy positively affects the recall memory. The directions of future research for this experiments are to apply patients impaired on memory for cognitive rehabilitation.
